對台灣職業高爾夫界而言，今天是一個不凡的日子：三商杯台灣名人賽已經 20歲了!

七千個日子，對任何一個人來說都已不能算短，尤其對一個高額獎金的職業運動而言；身為發起人之一的我 , 首先要對三商企業集團及翁前董事長在獎金及人力上?而不捨的長期投入致上最高的敬意，也代表台灣PGA向三商企業致上最大的謝意.

際此歷史里程碑的時刻，理應將這二十年來在幕後默默義務投入的無名英雄們公諸於高爾夫同好，並向他們致敬致謝！

回想二十年前，台灣禮品公會的高爾夫基金會，經當時的公會理事長翁肇喜兄的熱心向成員及公會球隊熱心隊友募集，基金已達相當金額，乃開會討論：基金所孳生的利息應如何投入高爾夫界，雖然初期同意作為具潛力的年輕業餘培訓球員的按月補貼，後經多次討論決議：以高爾夫基金所孳生的利息加上公會球隊熱心成員的自動捐款，自扶輪社友所支持舉辦了一年多的台灣 PGA小獎金月例賽接手，將比賽擴大並正規化為年度賽。籌備工作交由翁兄、我,，當時的PGA理事長許勝三，及選手陳良溪 ，順利借到台灣高爾夫俱樂部的舊淡水球場，在謝永郁、呂良煥，及謝敏男等幾位前輩老師的熱烈聲援下，順利舉辦了第一屆台灣禮品高爾夫名人賽，這也是三商杯的前身。

第二屆起，獎金及人力重擔逐漸移到三商集團機構，遂以「三商杯高爾夫名人賽」為正名，自第十七屆起，台灣高爾夫俱樂部正式加入為主辦單位之一，其後本賽的全名為「台灣名人賽暨三商杯高爾夫邀請賽」 , 沿用至今。前八屆僅邀請台灣選手，第九屆起擴大為國際賽，並成為亞巡賽的一站。

台灣 PGA扮演了重要的角色：大會裁判組：許多位業餘高手則負責了競賽組；由於這兩組高爾夫專業人員長期以來的負責盡職，才能讓本賽年年順利，居功甚偉。

當然，任何比賽必須有大量觀眾的高度關心及參與，才能提高比賽的熱度及社會的廣大注意而逐漸提升這個運動在全民心目中的地位，這就需要平面及立體媒體的熱心報導。本賽一開始就獲得台灣第一位高爾夫專任記者王麗珠的熱心參與並作多角度報導，才能一炮而紅，其後更有吳濱洋、徐文秀、魏玉珍 ... 多位優秀體育記者的長期加入，使得本賽能成為台灣家喻戶曉的大比賽之一。

而將這麼多工作串聯起來付諸執行的重頭戲，自然就落到執行秘書的身上；從前期的陳玉書到後期的姚怡芬，二十年如一日，從選手資格的審定、邀請、手續、交通、住宿，到分組、記錄、頒獎等，無一不是執行秘書親力親為，直到獎金的發放為止；雖說經過幾屆之後總體制度已成形，但每一屆前後半年的聯繫、意外枝枝節節的處理等異常繁瑣的工作，都必須及時完成，才能將一個完美的比賽呈現在大家的眼前，其中的甘苦，點滴在心頭！

僅以此短文向全體默默投入的英雄們致上無限的敬意與謝意！三商杯的延續，需要你們長期不斷的協助；你們所代表的意義，是無比的價值和無上的光榮！！

最讓人懷念的，莫過於二年前英年早逝的三商企業前董事長及本賽前執行長陳河東先生，沒有他的全力投入，三商杯無法達到如今的完美境界。讓我們以最精彩的比賽，作為我們對河東兄的永久感念！

To Taiwan professional golfers, this is a special day: Mercuries Cup is 20 years old!

7,000 days are not a short space of time especially to a high prize-purse professional tournament; being one of the chartered organizers, I must firstly express our highest appreciation and deepest salute to Mercuries Group and Mr. George Wong who have been contributing prize-purse and devoting full manpower to this Tournament, such thankfulness is especially from Taiwan PGA.

At this historical moment, let me introduce those "unknown heroes behind the curtains", it is their enthusiastic participations in this team that make this Tournament possible.

20 years ago, the Golf Foundation Committee of Taiwan Gifts Association (TGA), led by Chairman Mr. George Wong, firstly decided to use the interest derived from the funds to sponsor some young amateur golfers; and lateron, proposed by George, we decided to also hold an annual professional golf tournament. Planning and preparatory works were given to George, myself, Mr. Shu Sheng-San, Chairman of Taiwan PGA, and pro-golfer Chen Liang-Hsi; we were highly welcomed by Taiwan Golf & Country Club to use their Old Tamshui Golf Course; then with full supports from those world-known veteran pro golfers like: Hsieh Yong-Yu, Lu Liang-Huan, and Tony Hsieh, we successfully held "The First TGA Taiwan Masters Golf Tournament", this is the forerunner of this Mercuries Taiwan Masters Tournament.

From the second Tournament and on, Mercuries Group started to put more money into the prize purse, nearly 100% of manpower to run the Tournament, so from then on, the name was "Mercuries Cup Golf Tournament, The Masters of Taiwan". And from the 17th and on, Taiwan Golf C. C. joined as one of the Organizers, so the name is changed into "The Mercuries Taiwan Masters International Golf Tournament" till now.

During the first 8 years, this Tournament was mainly for Taiwan top golfers; starting from the 9th, we also invited good golfers worldwide and joined the Asian Tour.

Taiwan PGA has been playing very important role: Referee & Marshals; a group of single-handicap golfers from Taiwan Golf Association handled the Tournament Affairs. These veteran golfers have been the greatest helps to us to make our tournaments smooth and successful.

The most important roles to any tournament are the mass audience; fortunately we have had full supports from Ms. Wang Li-Zhu, the very first professional reporter of golfs, then also from Ms. Wu Pin-Yang, Ms.Hsu Wen-Hsiu, Ms. Jennifer Wei, ... also Mr. Guo Zong-Tai as life TV commentator, the constant successful and vivid reports from them made this Tournament well-known to the Asian golf publics.

Actually all these works must be leagued together to move, this most important job is successfully handled by the Secretarial Group, firstly headed by Mr. Chen Yu-Shu, then succeeded by Ms. Eve Yao, non-stop in 20 years, they handled all the detailed works, solved problems, took good cares of all invited golfers, then present to us a perfect and successful Tournament! This great job is piled up with their tears and smiles, this we should know.

This prose is to show our heartiest thankfullness and gratefullness to all these unknow heroes -- Taiwan Masters Tournament needs your full plunge-in continuosly, your participations are invaluable!

The one we missed the most is Mr. Harvey Chen, ex-Chairman of Mercuries Group and ex-chief Executive to this Tournament who passed away a few years ago. Without his full contributions, we can not run this Tournament so perfect as it is now. Let us do all we can to make this 20th Tournament as perfect and as elegant as possible and make it the best present to Harvey.
