2009年第23屆三商杯高爾夫名人賽即將於10月1日隆重揭幕。今年對台灣來說，可以說是個國際運動交流的豐收年；7月先有吸引全球注目的高雄世運會風光落幕，9月台北又領先亞洲各城市首辦聽障奧運會，在在顯示台灣在舉辦國際賽事的能力與專業。當然，邁入第23個年頭的三商杯高爾夫名人賽，過去即為國際間高度重視的高爾夫賽程，每年總是吸引各國頂尖好手於此較量，精彩盛況絕不亞於其他國際運動賽事。

今年，適逢比賽場地--台灣高爾夫俱樂部90周年，在這座台灣最具歷史且享譽世界的高爾夫場地，我相信每一位選手都能揮出最美好的球技；我們也相信，在三商企業的長期贊助合作下，台灣高爾夫名人賽也同樣能夠如同台灣高爾夫俱樂部一樣，持續發展到百年以上的歷程，長期地永續經營下去。當然，每屆球賽的圓滿完成，幕後總有默默無名的辛苦志工與工作夥伴們，不斷地付出，在此也致上我由衷的感謝。

Certainly, 2009 is going to be a memorable year for Taiwan in hosting 2 worldly very important sport events; firstly, the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung in July and then the Deaflympics 2009 in Taipei in September, both attracted the large numbers of athletes and journalism from many countries and closed the curtains in great success with enthusiastic applauds. These all prove that Taiwan is capable and has sufficient infrastructure to stage many kinds of world class professional sports too. This year’s Taiwan Masters will start on October 1st, 2009 as the 23rd Mercuries Cup Invitational Golf Tournament and with the top Asian Tours players participating; the magnificent show is expected as usual.

It just so happens that Taiwan Golf Club, our cosponsor and the venue of the competition, celebrates her 90th anniversary this year so it is especially meaningful for all players whose excellent performances will add a page in the club’s history. I am very grateful for the generosity of Mercuries Group for their continuous sponsorship and hope this tournament will be passed down for 100 more years like Taiwan Golf Club. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated volunteers and capable staffs of ours who devote themselves completely behind the scenes to make all these possible.
